Close up - leaf on Debbie's quilt

So easy, just sew onto a leaf-shaped foundation and then clip to shape. It's using scraps the size of stamps, at times!! Some of my favourite fabrics.

Still to sew this one down, and add lots of embroidery. Love that most of this is being made with just my scrap pile. It's great mum came and reorganised my stash, and put all my scraps in one box!!

I'll be adding family photos as flowers on each stem, and doing lots of embroidery, and quilting with embroidery thread. Need to embroider on the stems, and embroider the birds legs. I've been using techniques from Jan Mullen's books.

I'm making a quilt for my s-in-law. My brother and s-inlaw have four kids - two boys and two girls. So I've made two pink and two blue birds. and one of the birds is flying away - that's Jack who has gone to uni. I still have to do lots of embroidery, such as the birds' legs.

Toy mazes

Ben filled pages and pages with mazes. He asked me for a category, and I suggested toys - this is what he came up with. He complained his hand was getting sore half way through - so I sent him off to ride a bike for a bit!

Ben spent hours making mazes on a home-made birthday card. I just had to take photos before he gave the card away to the birthday boy.

Crane-y day

When I picked the boys up from their granny's place after school yesterday, Ben showed me that he'd made four cranes, big, smaller, smaller and smallest (see the five cent piece against it). They've been learning to make cranes in Japanese. Then when we came home, we sat down and Ben showed me how to make cranes. We made lots, and then, when I'd made one all by myself, I got to make a smaller one - the black one. It was great! It went on for what seemed hours!

Ben bought himself a captain underpants book today. It's a big deal for him to withdraw money from his bank account and buy something. He's been saving up for a two-storey house for years. Although now he thinks it would be good to buy a big solar panel for our house (or a safe for his rock collection). Ben read his book, and the boys had a milkshake.

Blue pancakes for breakfast

Every Sunday morning Ben gets up at about 6, 6.30 and makes a batch of (usually banana) pancakes. Then he waits for one of us to get up and cook them. He's a bit too small to cook them on his own as yet - for a start he doesn't reach the bench. Today's offerings were blue. I didn't end up eating them today. Here's Andrew tucking into breakfast.

Here's the stack of books on my bedside table. Just finished Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and started pillars of the earth. Sometimes the stack seems too big! Here's Ben's latest experiment. It says Do not DRINK. Saltwater. Will have to see what he does with it. Oh, he says he's going to freeze it because it's harder to freeze salt water.
Di, the office manager at my husband's work sent home a present for me yesterday. I've been taking boxes of fundraising chocolates and snakes into my work to sell. She used supplies on hand at the practice - so post it notes, sticky tape, brown paper and paper clips. She put a lot of work into it!!I'll use it to write up my quilt ideas!

Photos at the boys' school. This is the highschool area where Andrew will be going next year. Love that they've planted spinach with the logo of the school. They have spinach growing all year round.
Dropped the boys at school last week. I was waiting to turn out of the school's road, and a bus came along, thought it could squeeze past me and scraped the side of my car. So sad, it's only a year old. It's off being fixed now. Amazing that a long double bus only caused this much damage...

Hidden words quilt

Wouldn't this be a great quilt idea. The kids have both gone through stages of making hidden word puzzles. I've saved pages and pages of their puzzles in their artwork boxes. I was just looking at this quilt with Ben. I could convert one of the puzzles they've done - to make their very own hidden word puzzle.

Ben made himself an earring out of wax. I think he needs a haircut!
And I've also been working on this quilt. The rows aren't all sewn together yet. I might make it bigger. Hard to see in the photo, but the lime green has descriptions of painting and such. I really like it because there are typos and inexplicable font changes - say to italics. I do lots of editing, writing and proof reading at work, so it appeals to that side of me. A friend said I should embroider over the mistakes, like an editor marks up a proof. Don't think I'll be going to that bother...
I made this a few years ago, and then gave up in disgust. I actually can't remember why now. I think because there wasn't as much contrast as I'd hoped. Anyway, mum reorganised my quilt material, and all my works in progress are in the one box now - easy to find. I pulled this out on the weekend, and just love it. I'm going to just add a border - I have more of Jan Mullen's lemon fabric - and take it off to be quilted. Easy!!
I was addicted to buttons for a bit. Ordered them on ebay and such - here's something I made with my white buttons.
