Reading

I bought the sixth in the Artemis Fowl series for Ben yesterday - Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox.

He's in bed with me having a good read before breakfast.

Ben goes away on a week-long camp tomorrow. The bus leaves the school at 7am, so I'm loving having some snuggle time with him.

Fish fabric

I just love this new fish fabric in Spoonflower's weekly competition. I can imagine using lots of it as a background fabric...

Guinea pigs

There are three new guinea pig fabrics in the weekly competition running on Spoonflower at the moment. The full on face is such a good one - they're so good at the blank, expressionless, staring face!

Squid

Starfish

Ben's game

We've all been sitting on our bed at night playing rounds of Ben's card game. All the cards are some kind of sea creature.

Vegetables

We've been working out in the garden today. Pulled up the pumpkin and pulled up just one of the potato plants.

I can't believe the crop from this one potato. It was growing in a very good spot - where I've emptied one of the worm farm trays.

Kermit

Muffins

The muffins at my regular coffee stop this miring are Miss Piggy (strawberry and white chocolate) and Kermit (peppermint). How cute is that!

Anniversary flowers

Flowers

It's been a flowers kind of week. I was given a huge bunch from friends for having their son stay with us this week. And Mark gave me flowers for our anniversary.

Echo quilting

I've echo quilted each of the petals on the bag.

Hand quilting

Before and after yesterday's egg hunt, I hand quilted the bag I'm making to go with the pink and green quilts I've made. I'll be posting this off in the next few days to the birthday girl. The basting threads are still in place in the photo.

Off cuts

Here's the off cuts so far.

I'm planning to piece all the chevron blocks, then add a thin border as a bit of visual space, then add a border made of all these off cuts.

Chevrons

I've been working on this chevron pattern over Easter.

I'm really enjoying the mixed up craziness of putting all these fabrics together. I'm also keeping all the off cuts and planning to use them in the border.

Painting

We went to the coast a couple of weeks ago with another family. We stayed in a house owned by Rose's brother. His daughter painted this gorgeous still life. I just had to take a photo of it.

I felt like a bower bird - I just had to collect it.

Ice

Well it's 9am on Easter Friday and here I am with Ben at ice skating. He has a lesson in half an hour.

Ben had his second test last night and passed the novice one and two levels.

Partners comes up in a few levels. He'll be much in demand because boy figure skaters are thin on the ground!

Ben's shield

Ben is studying medieval history for main lesson.

He's spent the last few nights laboriously drawing and coloring in a good-sized shield for himself.

I would have loved to have taken a photo of him holding it this morning but he's getting harder to photograph. He says 'you'll just put it on your bog'.

I love that he's also made a good handle at the back, and that it even takes on the real shield shape when he holds it.

Easter

My husband was looking over my shoulder when I was on pinterest the other night. He spied this parfait, and said he'd love me to cook it. It's chocolate, so it might be a good Easter treat?

Birthday bag

Big ambitions to start a new quilt last night but there's still a birthday present I need to make.

I'll post this bag off to the birthday girl. It'll be a companion to one of the pink and green quilts. Same fabrics, same petals.

I'm planning to do some hand quilting to really stand out in pearly embroidery threads. And thinking of buttons too. I'm having a lot of fun planning this one.

And it appeals to my frugal, practical side too. The blocks were left over from the two quilt marathon, and the petals made from fabric that had already been chopped into little squares.

Starting tonight

This is the quilt I'm starting tonight with the gorgeous jelly roll I bought.

I do like wonky, so I'll make it a wonky style. The fabric I bought has lots of colour-dense purples, lime greens, pinks and yellows. It'll be the four day Easter break soon, so I'll post up some photos soon.

100%

I'm so proud of Andrew tonight. He scored full marks in his Japanese assignment. It's all gobbledygook to me. In this picture, Andrew was saying that when he's camping he gets up at 6 (otherwise all the food is gone).

I've tacked the petals down so they don't get in the way of Fran when she does the machine quilting. I'm planning to sew each petal down with a button - white, pink, green, I haven't decided yet...Maybe a mix of all three?

Close up of the pink and green quilt

This shows the 3D petals. Time-consuming, but worth it. And I love the idea of using up all the scraps.

I pegged my quilt up on the line. It's blowing in the wind, but gives more of an overview. Now it's ready for the lovely machine quilter I go to - Fran.

Latest

This is what I've been working on this weekend and last - 3D petals as the border to finish off my two pink and green quilts.
